Link each card to a truck or driver and restrict fuel type, daily limit and countries of use. An unrestricted universal card is convenient for thieves too.
Compare statements with vehicle location, tank capacity and mileage. A fill larger than physical capacity or made while the truck was idle deserves investigation.
There must be an immediate blocking process after loss of a card or departure of an employee. Waiting until the next working day can be expensive.
Model scenario: a card assigned to a 780-litre tank records 520 litres in France while telematics places the truck parked in Belgium. A real-time country mismatch alert catches the transaction before the next billing cycle.
