Consumption changes with weight, terrain, weather, speed, heating and cooling. The same truck can therefore perform very differently on two routes.
Charging location and power are crucial. Waiting for an available charger or charging slowly during loading time can quickly turn energy savings into downtime.
Stable routes returning to base with a known daily mileage work best. Electrification should begin where operations can be repeated, measured and improved.
Model scenario: a 420 kWh truck planned at 1.15 kWh per kilometre has about 365 km of theoretical working range. Reserving 15 percent and allowing winter consumption of 1.35 kWh leaves nearer 264 km, which materially changes a 300 km schedule.
